The Acoustimart System

Three parts. One engineered wall.

Every fabric-wrap gripper install is the same three layers, in the same order. Frame first, backing next, fabric last. Change the backing and you change the acoustic target; change the fabric and you change the design — without touching the wall.

01

Frame

Acoustimart uPVC gripper — edge, butt, or cove profiles — cut to length and fixed to the substrate. This defines the panel footprint and locks the fabric edge on all four sides.

02

Backing

The acoustic infill inside the frame — poly wadding, PU foam, rockwool, or fibreglass, depending on absorption target. Thickness and density are picked for the room's RT60 goal.

03

Fabric

Decorative acoustically-transparent fabric stretched over the frame and tucked into the gripper channel using our installer tools. Solid colours, brand prints, or custom artwork.

Buyer’s guide

Everything worth knowing before you buy.

Acoustimart's uPVC gripper system is the foundation of every professional stretched-fabric acoustic wall in India. The extrusion snaps around a fabric edge and locks it in place — no visible fasteners, no sagging, no unclip-and-restretch every few years. It's how the world's studios, auditoriums, and boardrooms achieve the premium fabric-wrap look you see in reference-grade installations, and it's why Acoustimart went in-house on tooling this profile rather than reselling imported plastic.

Why serious acoustic installs use gripper systems

Direct-fixed absorbers — foam, PET, wood wool — solve the acoustics but freeze the design. Change your mind on colour and you're demolishing the wall. Fabric-wrap gripper walls decouple acoustics from finish: the acoustic infill is engineered for the room's reverberation target, and the fabric is chosen for the room's design brief. Change either without touching the other.

This is what "future-proof acoustics" means in practice. Ten years in, if the interior gets refreshed, the client only re-covers panels — foam, wadding, and grippers all stay. Ten years in, if the room's use changes (a boardroom becomes a video-podcast studio), the infill can be upgraded without a demolition permit. Gripper walls are the difference between a fit-out and a system.

The three profiles and where each one goes

The Edge Gripper (13 MM or 25 MM) sits at the perimeter of every panel — where the fabric transitions to the wall around it. It's the most-used profile on every project. The 13 MM handles standard panels up to ~50 mm thick; the 25 MM handles thicker panels (foam bass traps, 100 mm poly-wadding infill) where the extra channel depth is needed to seat a heavier fabric.

The Butt Gripper (also called centre gripper) sits mid-panel where two fabrics meet — used when a wall is broken into colour blocks, brand patterns, or serviceable sub-panels. The centre-mounted channel lets each fabric tuck cleanly into its own side without an ugly seam.

The Cove Gripper handles curved edges — around round columns, cornices, radiused corners. The profile has a flexible bend the installer can shape on site. This is what separates a factory-look install from a bespoke one.

Sizing your gripper order

The rule of thumb: perimeter of every panel + inter-panel joins. For a rectangular 4×8 ft panel that's ~24 running feet (~7.3 m) of gripper — call it four 2-metre sticks with waste. For a wall of eight panels, plan around 60 metres of edge gripper and one to two butt grippers depending on how you sub-divide.

Always order 10–15% overage on grippers. They cut cleanly with a hacksaw, but wastage on angled cuts adds up. The trim blade in our tucking-tools kit gives cleaner butt joints than a jigsaw.

How the gripper compares to alternatives

The two alternatives are cheap imported plastic profiles and site-fabricated wooden battens with stapled fabric. Both work. Neither survives the ten-year test.

Cheap imported grippers use PVC that yellows and cracks under Indian summer humidity swings. When they fail, they take the fabric with them — you're not un-tucking, you're demolishing. Acoustimart runs its extrusion on domestically-sourced uPVC formulated for Indian conditions.

Site-fabricated wooden battens with stapled fabric look identical for the first six months. Then the staples corrode, the fabric develops shiny stress lines, and the whole wall needs replacing. Grippers are the only serviceable long-term answer.

Installation — how the system goes on the wall

The install workflow is: mark the panel footprint on the wall, cut grippers to length, screw grippers to the substrate on all four sides (using masonry anchors on brick, drywall anchors on gypsum), insert the acoustic infill inside the frame, stretch the fabric over the frame and tuck the edges into the gripper channel using the Acoustimart tucking tools, trim excess fabric flush.

For a two-person crew, a 4×8 ft panel installs in about 45 minutes end-to-end. A wall of six panels is a comfortable single-day job. The tucking-tools kit (curve blade, speed roller, flat plate, corner tool, fabric pressing tool, multi-angle cutter, stapler) is the single most important productivity multiplier on install day.

Regional context — sourcing acoustic materials in India

Most acoustic materials in India are still imported (or worse — imported, re-branded, and marked up by three layers of resellers before they reach the installer). Acoustimart went in-house on the entire fabric-wrap system — grippers, poly wadding, tucking tools, MLV — precisely to break that chain. You order from the manufacturer; the manufacturer ships to your project; the manufacturer's acoustic engineer answers the phone when your on-site query lands.

This is why our gripper is spec'd on auditoriums, worship venues, corporate boardrooms, and studios across India — from Bengaluru through Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and every state capital in between.
