Buyer’s guide
Everything worth knowing before you buy.
Fabric Tucking Tools are what separate a professional gripper-fabric install from an amateur attempt. Each tool in the kit does one specific job in the install workflow — cutting grippers to length, seating fabric into channels, tensioning fabric across the frame, trimming excess flush. Own the kit and a two-person crew can install a wall of six panels in a single day; try to improvise with kitchen tools and you'll take three days for the same job with a less-professional finish.
Why installers use the full kit
The gripper-fabric system was designed around a specific install workflow, and each tool in the kit corresponds to a step in that workflow. Skip a tool and either the install takes longer or the finish isn't right.
The most common amateur shortcut: using a butter knife instead of the fabric-pressing tool. It works for the first few tucks, then the knife starts marking the fabric, and you're left with visible dents down the panel edge. The pressing tool's rounded polymer edge won't mark fabric, ever.
Tool-by-tool — what each does
Curve Angle Blade: for tucking fabric into curved edges (around cove grippers, radiused corners). The angled blade lets you drive fabric into the channel while following the curve.
Speed Roller: for seating fabric evenly along straight runs. Roll the tool along the gripper channel and it presses the fabric into the channel with consistent pressure. Fastest tool on the kit for professional-speed installs.
Flat Board Plate: for tensioning fabric across the panel face during tuck-in. Push the plate against the fabric to keep tension while you tuck the adjacent edge.
Corner Tool: for clean 90° corners. Corners are the hardest part of a gripper-fabric install; this tool makes them consistent and fast.
Fabric Pressing Tool: for the final seat — pushing fabric fully into the channel after the initial tuck. This is where the finish quality happens.
Track Multi-Angle Cutter: for cutting grippers cleanly at 90°, 45°, and custom angles. Replaces a hacksaw for the fastest gripper-prep workflow.
Stapler for Acoustic Fabric Panel: for fixing fabric behind the gripper channel where a mechanical fix is required. Rarely needed on straight runs; standard on complex install geometries.
Install workflow — how the tools sequence
Prep phase: cut grippers to length with the multi-angle cutter, screw grippers to the substrate on all four sides of the panel footprint.
Infill phase: insert acoustic infill (poly wadding, foam, or rockwool) inside the gripper frame.
Fabric phase: cut fabric to size with 10 cm overhang on each edge. Stretch fabric across the panel. Use the flat plate to hold tension on one edge while you seat the opposite edge with the speed roller and pressing tool.
Finish phase: work around all four sides, using the corner tool at each corner and the curve blade on any curved sections. Trim excess fabric flush with a sharp utility knife.
Time per panel with the full kit: ~35–45 minutes for an experienced two-person crew.
Buying the kit — full vs individual tools
For any professional installer or interior contractor, buy the full kit. The cost of the kit is offset within the first project by the time savings and finish-quality improvement.
For a one-off project (single home theatre, single boardroom, DIY enthusiast), individual tools are available. Contact us with your project scope and we'll suggest the minimum tool set.
For distributor / dealer accounts, we ship bulk kits at trade pricing. If you're specifying gripper-fabric installs as part of an interior design firm's regular scope, this is the right way to buy.
Tool maintenance and longevity
Wipe blades and cutting edges clean after each install. Store in the supplied kit box between jobs. Blades are replaceable — order spares from Acoustimart with your next materials order.
The tools are steel-and-polymer construction, designed for daily professional use. A well-maintained kit lasts 5+ years of steady contract installation work.
Training resources for new installers
New to gripper-fabric installs? Acoustimart provides installer training resources — installation manuals, video walk-throughs, and on-request training for new contractor accounts. Contact our team; we're happy to help onboard installers into the system.
