Absorptive Infill
Poly Wadding
Non-woven polyester wadding — a lightweight, dust-free absorber for panels and studio insulation.
Overview
Polywadding is a non-woven, polyester fibre material widely used in acoustic insulation due to its excellent sound absorption properties. It's lightweight yet dense, dampening sound by reducing echo, reverberation, and airborne noise transmission — used inside acoustic panels, studio walls, home theatres, automotive interiors, and appliance soundproofing.

Buyer’s guide
Everything worth knowing before you buy.
Poly Wadding is the acoustics industry's quiet workhorse. You'll rarely see it — it lives inside gripper-fabric walls, behind PET panels, and inside stud cavities — but it's the material doing most of the acoustic work in premium fit-outs. Non-fibrous, dust-free, hypoallergenic, and dimensionally stable, poly wadding is the modern replacement for fibreglass batting in health-conscious and design-forward installations.
Why poly wadding replaced fibreglass
For fifty years, glass fibre was the default cavity infill in acoustic construction. Then health-conscious specifications drove the shift: fibreglass sheds micro-fibres over time, isn't fully sealed inside gripper walls, and creates ventilation planning headaches during renovation. Poly wadding solves all three: non-friable, non-fibrous, safe to handle bare-handed, and safer to renovate around.
For architects specifying schools, hospitals, offices, and residential builds, poly wadding is now the default first-choice absorber inside walls. Acoustimart carries three GSMs to cover the acoustic-target range from casual meeting rooms up to studio-grade tracking rooms.
Where poly wadding lives — always hidden
Behind gripper-fabric walls as the primary acoustic infill. This is by far the biggest use case — for every square metre of gripper wall installed in India, there's roughly a square metre of poly wadding behind it.
Inside stud cavities as sound-absorbing insulation. Combined with MLV between drywall layers, poly wadding-in-cavity gives you an isolation shell with acoustic damping — the recipe for studio-grade wall assemblies.
As back-of-panel absorber behind PET or wood-wool panels on standoff mounts. The wadding fills the air gap and pushes the absorption curve down into low frequencies.
500, 1000, or 1200 GSM — which do you need?
500 GSM (lightweight, ~500 g/m²) is the pick for lightweight ceiling clouds and thin decorative panels where absorption target is casual (NRC 0.4–0.5). Cheapest, easiest to handle, ships lots per crate.
1000 GSM is the workhorse — the default for gripper-fabric walls and stud-cavity infill. Delivers a strong balance of absorption and cost. About 80% of Acoustimart's wadding orders are at this GSM.
1200 GSM is the studio-grade pick. Deeper absorption into the mids, denser feel behind the fabric, marginally heavier. Reserved for recording studios, home theatres with strict RT60 targets, and cinema auditoriums.
Roll sizing and cutting on site
Standard roll: 15 m long × 1.2 m wide (18 SQM per roll). Cut on-site with sharp utility knife or scissors — no dust, no protective gear needed. Fill gripper-fabric frames to the frame's internal thickness (typically 25 mm for edge grippers or 50 mm for thicker infill applications).
Compressed wadding transports well — one 18 SQM roll compresses down to about the size of a two-suiter suitcase for shipping. Uncompresses fully within an hour of removing packaging. Bulk orders palletise cleanly.
Long-term stability — the ten-year test
Because poly wadding is enclosed inside sealed panels or wall cavities, its long-term stability is essentially bounded by the enclosing structure. Kept dry and enclosed, wadding retains full acoustic performance for decades.
Even in unenclosed installations (rare — usually behind mesh grilles in industrial applications), wadding doesn't rot, mould, or degrade in service. The only failure mode is compression under sustained heavy load, which never happens in vertical-panel or horizontal-cavity installations.
Bulk pricing for project-scale orders
Poly wadding is the item most likely to hit bulk pricing on architect-specified projects — a single 50-panel gripper wall might use 400+ SQM of wadding. Reach out with your total wall area for volume pricing. Multi-site rollouts (regional office chains, hotel groups) get consolidated shipping and staggered delivery on request.
Benefits
Why customers choose Poly Wadding.
Manufacturer-direct pricing, project-scale timelines, and real acoustic-engineering support behind every order.
- Non-fibrous, dust-free, hypoallergenic — safer than fiberglass
- Won't sag, rot, or attract moisture over time
- Standard infill behind fabric-wrap and gripper walls
- Available in three GSM weights for different absorption targets
Installation guide
- Cut wadding to size with a sharp utility knife or scissors
- Place inside gripper-fabric frames as absorbing infill
- Use inside stud cavities for wall / ceiling insulation
- Stack layers for thicker absorbers or bass traps
Care & maintenance
- Once enclosed behind fabric, wadding is maintenance-free
- Non-friable — does not shed fibres like fiberglass
500 GSM for lightweight ceiling clouds and thin panels. 1000 GSM is the workhorse for gripper-fabric walls. 1200 GSM gives the deepest mid-frequency absorption for studio-grade panels.
