Buyer’s guide

Everything worth knowing before you buy.

PET Acoustic Panels are the mainstream face of modern office and hospitality acoustics in India. Made from up to 60% recycled polyester fibre, they combine broadband sound absorption with a premium matte finish, come in a wide colour range, and cut to any pattern on a standard CNC. They're the panel most architects have opened a project meeting with over the last five years — and Acoustimart's 9 MM and 12 MM boards are among the most consistent in the country.

Why PET replaced fibreglass as the office default

Two decades ago, fibreglass ruled the office ceiling. Then buildings got smarter about indoor air quality, and non-fibrous polyester emerged as the safer alternative. PET panels don't shed micro-fibres, are wipe-clean, are Class-A low-VOC, and can be safely installed in schools, hospitals, and open offices without special ventilation.

The visual side sealed the deal. PET boards come in colour ranges that fibreglass never approached, and CNC-cutting into any pattern means one material serves as acoustic treatment AND design feature. This is why every major office fit-out in the last five years has PET somewhere in the ceiling or wall.

9 MM vs 12 MM — which do you need?

9 MM boards handle typical office reverberation. If your room has soft flooring (carpet) and a normal false ceiling above, 9 MM panels at 20–30% wall coverage will bring RT60 into the comfortable 0.5–0.6 s range that video calls and meetings need.

12 MM boards give measurably deeper mid-frequency absorption. They're the pick for restaurants, cafés, auditoriums, and open floors with hard finishes (concrete, tile, exposed slabs). The extra 3 mm of thickness moves the absorption curve into the range you actually feel — clearer speech at longer distances, less need to raise your voice.

Colour range and pattern options

Acoustimart carries PET boards in the standard neutral range (charcoal, grey, cream, ivory, black, white) and can source bespoke colours on project-scale orders. Custom-dyed boards for brand palettes are available with 4–6 week lead time.

CNC pattern-cutting turns PET into a design surface. Common project requests: brand logos as feature walls, geometric perforation grids for meeting rooms, biophilic leaf shapes for reception areas, honeycomb patterns for open floors. Send us your CAD and we return a quote.

Installation and finishing

PET panels install direct-fixed with construction adhesive (Fevicol SR-505 or equivalent), hidden fixings, or standoff mounts. For ceilings, use T-grid systems (see our Tracks and Trims range) or wire-drop suspensions.

For maximum acoustic performance, standoff-mount the boards 20–40 mm off the substrate — the air gap dramatically improves low-frequency absorption. Direct-fixed panels absorb well but lose low-end reach.

Butt joints work without any exposed trim — you can install a wall of PET boards with clean vertical seams and no visible hardware. This is one reason architects reach for PET first.

Fire, VOC, and safety — the compliance basics

Standard Acoustimart PET boards ship as Class B fire-rated. Class A is available on project-scale orders with 4-week lead time — required for cinema, auditorium, and hospital fit-outs under most Indian building codes.

VOC emissions are Class A low — safe for classrooms, hospitals, and open offices without additional ventilation planning. Batch VOC reports available for green-building certifications (IGBC, LEED).

Why Acoustimart PET vs imported alternatives

The PET market in India is fragmented — dozens of resellers stock imported product from China, Vietnam, and Turkey with variable quality control. Acoustimart runs consistent-batch domestic production, so you can spec today and receive the same board on order six months later.

Bulk architecture and hospitality projects have moved to Acoustimart precisely because of this consistency. Spec sheet matches installed reality, batch after batch.

Benefits

Why customers choose PET Acoustic Panels.

Manufacturer-direct pricing, project-scale timelines, and real acoustic-engineering support behind every order.

  • Non-fibrous — safe for schools, hospitals, and open offices
  • Made from up to 60% recycled PET (placeholder — confirm exact %)
  • Wide colour range doubles as an interior design element
  • Class-A low-VOC, impact-tolerant, dust-free
  • CNC-cuttable — supports custom patterns for feature walls

Installation guide

  1. Direct-fix to walls or ceilings with construction adhesive or hidden fixings
  2. Standoff-mount 20–40 mm off the substrate for improved low-frequency absorption
  3. For ceiling baffles, suspend with wire droppers or track systems
  4. Butt joints work well without any exposed trim

Care & maintenance

  • Wipe with a slightly damp cloth for surface dust
  • Persistent stains: gently sponge with mild soap solution, air-dry
  • PET does not sag, delaminate, or attract moisture over time
